David Bronner, CEO of Dr. Bronner’s Magic Soaps, was arrested a few days ago for protesting for industrial hemp outside of the White House, after a petition with 28,000 signatures was ignored by the U.S government. The official arrest was for marijuana possession; it would be more truthful to say that he was arrested for teaching the truth.
The truth: industrial hemp won’t get you high; industrial hemp is an ecologically and environmentally friendly product that directly threatens many industries and companies, the biggest being oil/plastics, paper and pharmaceuticals. It is the threat of the greatness of this ancient natural product that keeps it illegal, and nothing else.
As far as I’m concerned, our governments’ biggest interest, U.S and U.K (and many more), is keeping their benefactors happy - and those benefactors’ pockets are threatened by Hemp and Cannabis. I believe that Medical Marijuana/ Cannabis is kept illegal so that a) they can continue profitable (and harmful) cancer treatments without threat, b) they retain power over rights protestors (many of whom smoke weed) and most importantly, c) they can continue the lie that it is harmful and that hemp and cannabis are the same, and should be illegal, thus keeping their benefactors, the oil, paper and pharmaceutical giants happy, and protecting themselves from having to admit that they are wrong and are committing a crime against both humanity and the earth.
Because if they truly cared about either, which they should, they would have corrected this mistake years ago. It sickens me that we live in a world where money and power means more than health, well-being, equality and freedom. It scares me that my government and others are ignoring the environmental potential of hemp; how many natural disasters, epidemics and famines does humanity have to suffer before our leaders realise they are killing the earth and everyone on it?
How arrogant are they to ignore our own history - our fruitful and enlightened thousand year long relationship with Hemp and Cannabis? Especially when returning to it could save not only the environment and millions of sick people, but also the economy? With the technological advancements we have now, the hemp industry could be revolutionised - the possibilities are endless. And yet, they hold firm to their falsehoods, despite the evidence and public knowledge.
